A couple summers ago Max and I went on a boys trip to Charlevoix. It was a magical time that we decided we would do every year. This year we went van camping in Lundington State Park. It is an amazing time of spending every moment together with no rules or moms.

Max's Rules:

1. Drink as much energy drink as possible during the day!

2. No soap or toothpaste allowed. This one almost killed me!

3. Do NOT change your clothes unless absolutely necessary.

4. Don't tell mom means don't tell mom.

5. Anything is possible at any time.

Max also gets to set the agenda. I really try to let him decide what we are going to do. This even means checking at 9 am on Sunday morning if the local bowling ally is open just in case we can play a couple games during our Redbull run into town.

Max loves it because he truly is in charge and we get to do whatever an 11 year old wants to do.

I love it because I get to know Max in a way that a busy life often doesn't allow. I get to see how he thinks, what he thinks, what he dreams about and what makes him laugh. I get to see him interact with people he doesn't know. I get to see him take control and the choices he makes. It's a magical time between a father and son, two guys, two great friends, and best buddies. I can't wait until next year!
